Born and raised in Washington, DC, Ed Gross has been playing in bands since high school. In 1998, Ed left our nation's fair capitol city to attend Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. It was at Vassar that Ed first met Nathaniel Vose during their sophomore years, an event that would inexorably lead to the genesis of the band you now know as Hello Nurse.
In the spring of 2000, Gross and Vose (as the duo would never be called again, due to issues of both clarity and decency) started the heavy metal cover band Kiss My Axe. Later, the two would claim that the band's existence was merely ironic; however, Ed's solos sounded a little too well-rehearsed and Nathaniel looked a little too comfortable wearing make-up and a feather boa for anyone to believe their claims.
After graduating in the spring of 2002, Ed moved to New York and was joined the following fall by Nathaniel, where the two promptly moved into a "cozy" apartment on Avenue A and set about the task of starting a serious band: Hello Nurse.
Currently, Ed lives on the Lower East Side and works for Rolling Stone magazine. In addition to playing guitar for Hello Nurse, Gross is a published freelance writer specializing in music reviews and features and serves as the assistant editor of the local rock magazine "The Deli."
